H: Halona Blowhole

Located on the southern tip the island, Halona Blowhole erupts with water when the surf surges underneath the lava shelf and forces spray through the hole in the rock.  It's cool to see, but much more beautiful (and usually overlooked by the tourists stopping here) is Halona Cove, just to the right.  Because it is not visible as you are driving by and a short but steep descent is required to reach it on foot, many people bypass it.  If you do decide to climb down, you will be rewarded with a perspective that's just not possible from the parking lot!  For other 'H' photos please visit ABC Wednesday.

F: From Here to Eternity

This is Halona Cove, the famed beach that was the filming location for the love scene between actors Burt Lancaster and Deborah Kerr in  the 1953 movie "From Here to Eternity".  I love the contrasting blues of the water inside the cove, outside the cove, and in the sky.  Because it's a little hard to get to - you have to climb down a steep, rocky embankment - many people bypass it.  That means you have a good chance of having it all to yourself, especially during the week!  It's ABC Wednesday, so click HERE to see more 'F' photos.

Turbulent Seas

I took this one near Halona Cove - I love watching the way the waves crash violently onto the rocks. The churned-up surf at the top of the photo reminds me of a big airy cloud.
