Water Lilies

I love seeing these purple water lilies blooming at the Hilton Hawaiian Village in Honolulu.  It is worth a trip there just to walk around the resort and see the varieties of birds, plants, and flowers on the grounds.

Look Closely

and you will see a tiny sand crab.  They blend so perfectly with the sand that you can be walking along the beach and not even notice dozens of them scurrying into holes.  Check out Macro Monday to see other close-ups and cool macros.

Macro Monday

We got a lot of rain a couple of weeks ago, and I always love the way the drops are suspended from the palm fronds afterwards.  Head over to Macro Monday to see some great macros and close-ups today!

Foster Botanical Gardens: 6 of 7

One of the highlights of the Garden is the Orchid Conservatory, with its many colorful varieties.  My five year old daughter oohs and aahs over the blooms, but her favorite part of the conservatory is a little pond in the back, complete with a waterfall and small fish.  It's Macro Monday, and you can click HERE to see other close-ups and macros.

Foster Botanical Gardens: 1 of 7

After a recent stroll through Foster Botanical Gardens, I decided to devote a whole week in pictures to it.  This is the trunk of one of the palm trees - and yes, it is really that green (I did not edit the photo).  It's a variety called Roystonea, or "Royal Palm".

Macro Monday: Orchids

Orchids one of my two favorite kinds of flowers in the world.  I love that there are hundreds of varieties of all different sizes, colors, patterns, and petal shapes.  Though they are treated delicately and presumed to be very hard to grow in many places, they flourish here in Hawaii with little care.  To see interesting macros and close-ups, please visit Macro Monday.

Prop Shot

I got a close-up look at a U.S. Navy plane today (sadly I do not recall what kind it was, but it had four propellers).  This one was taken as I was looking straight  into one of the propellers.  It sort of reminds me of a face with the two eyes and a nose...

Turtle Drool

Yes, he is drooling but don't you still think he is beautiful?  I have a small fascination with green sea turtles, as you may have noticed if you follow my blog :)  Check out Macro Monday for other close-ups and some great macros.

In Honor of the First Day of Spring

Plumeria buds are just beginning to unfurl here in Hawaii.  The plumeria trees are interesting because they shed their leaves in the winter, then they flower before the new leaves appear.  So you have these bare trees with bunches of blossoms on the tips of each branch.  I've never really tried macro photography, but it just happened that a black ladybug was perched on a bud, so I decided to include her.  To see some great macro shots, check out Macro Monday.
