Yes, he is drooling but don't you still think he is beautiful? I have a small fascination with green sea turtles, as you may have noticed if you follow my blog :) Check out Macro Monday for other close-ups and some great macros.
Funny about the drool. I didn't know that they did that! It is still a wonderful photo! We have sea turtles that come to Orange Beach to nest at night but I have never seen one just come up on the beach during the day. That is so cool for you to get to see that!
What a great close-up! I understand your fascination with turtles. We have a pond in a college campus behind our house in Minnesota, but there are no specimens like this one there...he's a beauty drool and all!
Thanks everyone! Rachel, it is actually common to see the turtles during the day here, especially in the summer when they come close to the shore to feed on the algae.
Kim, he is laying just a few feet from the ocean - he crawled ashore to sun himself and I woke him from his slumber when I walked up. I think he was fast asleep, thus the drooling on himself! They are revered and protected here, so I can't imagine anyone killing them.
Amazing shot!!! [we were just watching a Nat. Geo. program of Hawai'ian green sea turtles on TV...fascinating creatures]
ReplyDeleteHe IS beautiful - and so is your photograph! The detail in his head is amazing.
ReplyDeleteDrooltastic!
