Auku'u

The Black-Crowned Night Heron is called an Auku'u in the Hawaiian language, and is found on all of the Hawaiian Islands.  Yesterday I posted a photo of the Hamakua Marsh, which is where I spotted this heron.  It's Skywatch Friday, and you can click HERE to see sky images from around the world.

  2. My little camera would never permit such a close-up. Great job!

    LOOKING UP

    No matter if blue or if grey,
    The sky is my favorite way
    To find my heart’s ease;
    And now, if you please,
    I must go look up straightaway.

  3. Thank you both! MMT, you will be visiting Oahu soon, won't you? If you are in Kailua, look for the Hamakua Marsh - you can actually get very close to the birds. The Herons seem especially at ease with people there.

  4. Thats a beauty Lisa! Our herons are pretty shy and will not let people get close before they fly off.
