The Black-Crowned Night Heron is called an Auku'u in the Hawaiian language, and is found on all of the Hawaiian Islands. Yesterday I posted a photo of the Hamakua Marsh, which is where I spotted this heron. It's Skywatch Friday, and you can click
HERE to see sky images from around the world.
Your image of the Auku'u is great. You have a lot of very beautiful creative images on your blogg. Well done!
ReplyDeleteMy little camera would never permit such a close-up. Great job!
ReplyDeleteLOOKING UP
No matter if blue or if grey,
The sky is my favorite way
To find my heart’s ease;
And now, if you please,
I must go look up straightaway.

Thank you both! MMT, you will be visiting Oahu soon, won't you? If you are in Kailua, look for the Hamakua Marsh - you can actually get very close to the birds. The Herons seem especially at ease with people there.
ReplyDeleteThats a beauty Lisa! Our herons are pretty shy and will not let people get close before they fly off.
ReplyDeleteYour photos of island living are beautiful, thanks for sharing with us all
